Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT)
Integrative manual therapy (IMT) is a unique compilation of diagnostic and treatment methodologies that assess and treat pain, dysfunction and disability. IMT treatment techniques are based on the premise that the body has the potential to self-correct or heal itself under the right circumstances. IMT techniques are manual (hands on) and generally involve gentle manipulative techniques to promote tissue repair, normalize structure and function. Unique to IMT is the integration of manual therapy techniques to all systems of the body including bone, nerve, fascia, muscle, organ, lymph and circulatory systems. Multiple systems are addressed to facilitate recovery. One of the techniques performed by an IMT practitioner is Craniosacral therapy, The craniosacral system includes the brain, spinal cord, skull and sacrum. CST practitioners use light touch to release tension and restore balance of the nervous system. Another technique is visceral mobilization. The purpose of VM is to re-create, harmonize, and increase proprioceptive communication in the body to enhance its internal mechanism for better health, thereby revitalizing a person, and relieving symptoms of pain, dysfunction, and poor posture. Visceral Manipulation treats a person’s functional and structural imbalances with an aim to affect their musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urogenital, respiratory, digestive, and lymphatic dysfunction.
