IASTM uses instruments, such as beveled metal tools and cups. The tools allow us to identify and treat scar tissue and restrictions in the skin, fascia (layer between the skin and the muscles), muscles, tendons and ligaments.  The tools aid in creating improved circulation and restored normal motion.   Although these treatments may be slightly uncomfortable, the gains in motion, reduction in pain and improved function usually greatly outweigh the temporary soreness. These techniques are very effective in treating myofascial pain syndrome, tendonitis/tendinosis, muscle strains/tears and post-operative range of motion restrictions.
